#PFAS influence cellular immune response to #coronavirus In a current study, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) researchers (among them Ana Zenclussen) show that high PFAS exposure has a negative effect on the cellular immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Climate change increases the risk of simultaneous #wildfires Climate change is increasing the #risk of wildfires in many regions of the world. This is due partly to specific weather conditions - known as fire weather - that facilitate the spread of wildfires. Researchers from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and Australian colleagues have found that fire weather seasons are increasingly overlapping between eastern Australia and western North America. The research team examined the causes of this shift and its implications for cross-border cooperation between fire services in #Canada, the #US, and #Australia. The 4th Leipzig Night of Apprenticeships will take place on May 23, 2025, and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) will participate. On that day, around 120 companies and institutions in #Leipzig will offer insights into more than 150 apprenticeship professions. We will also open our doors and present our apprenticeships as #biology laboratory assistants, #IT specialists, and #office management clerks in various vocational academy degree programs. Under the motto “Become a game changer for the environment with us”, visitors can look forward to a variety of hands-on activities. The event is open to people interested from grade 7 onwards, as well as their accompanying persons. The UFZ is part of bus route no. 18 and can also be explored during two direct visit time slots (16:15–17:45 and 18:15–19:45). Participation is free of charge. Registration for the bus routes and direct visits is possible starting April 17, 2025.
