The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher in #Hydrogeology / #Hydrology (f/m/x) Please share the following postdoc position within our networks: #Floodplains are among the most biodiverse landscapes in the temperate zone. Yet many remaining floodplain forests along our rivers are degraded and, in places, at risk. Decades of river straightening and confinement have lowered groundwater tables; in recent years, hotter and drier summers driven by climate change have added further stress. In this project, we will investigate practical options to increase water retention in an Elbe-adjacent floodplain, with the goal of stabilising the currently lowered groundwater table at a sustainably higher level. Place of work will be Magdeburg in Germany. Mobile work is possible (20%). Application deadline is November 30, 2025. 👉 For more information and application https://lnkd.in/eK5FKTrV #joboffer #research #postdoc #magdeburg

Our latest study, “Robust increase in observed heat storage by the global subsurface”, is now out in Science Advances! 👉 https://lnkd.in/ej2bDNTh For the first time, we combine geothermal data and satellite observations to track how much heat the Earth’s subsurface has stored over the past decades. Check out the nice video from Francisco José Cuesta-Valero.

Ich empfehle dazu die Lektüre des aktuellen BTR synthesis report (31.10.) für die #COP30: "Many Parties plan to achieve their NDCs through domestic PaMs (policies and actions) alone, while others intend to use cooperative approaches under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement." https://lnkd.in/eSWWqnXm
